Soror of the Year
Soror Portia L. Brantley
Leadership role within the chapter and committee project/task:
As Basileus, Soror Portia has streamlined our chapter meetings for efficiency and effectiveness and has created a comfortable environment conducive to collaborative cooperation and respect. By streamlining our meetings, Soror Portia has fostered more productive meetings and brought awareness of the importance of time management.

By being a member of each committee, she has attempted to attend each committee's call (outside of conflicting meetings with MABC, Cluster V and MRD) to offer support and guidance, when needed. Soror Portia maintains a very hectic schedule, but always has time to listen to the needs and concerns of any soror who contacts her. She has maintained her professionalism in challenging times and has always represented our chapter with the highest integrity.

She is forward thinking and understands the importance of looking at the larger picture for the betterment of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® and specifically Tau Pi Omega Chapter. Recognizing the impact of the Program Committee's budget, Soror Portia ensured a smooth transition of the Anti-Basileus' role by coordinating with Soror Burks-Jones and 3rd-party vendors to ensure the CHIPPTM initiative's success and cost-savings.

Soror Portia also understands the value of soror self-care and the importance of mental health. She made sure our chapter retreat was one of relaxation and rest. She recognized that sorors were burned out and stretched thin and her efforts to have a different approach to the retreat were appreciated. She readily volunteers in program initiatives and is always willing to lend a helping hand and offer a word of encouragement.

Golden Soror Gwendolyn Russell Green
Leadership role within the chapter and committee project/task:
Golden Soror Gwen was an anchor and guiding light for Tau Pi Omega since its chartering in 1993. She devoted countless hours to this chapter and sisterhood, and her loyalty and commitment were unmatched. She commanded attention when she entered a room and the deference shown to her was because of the respect that she earned over the years. Golden Soror Gwen pushed Tau Pi Omega to be better. Her mission was to see Tau Pi Omega elevated to its fullest potential in the communities we serve. Golden Gwen served as a mentor to all and held sorors accountable. Her feisty spirit was part of her unspeakable charm and her wit and her ability to smile through the storm made her unapologetically, Golden Soror Gwen.
